What’s Normal? FSH blood test

I got so aggravated with the nurse at my ob/gyn when I called for the results of my FSH test and all she would tell me was it was ‘normal’. “What does ‘normal’ mean?” I asked, and was met with silence. I could almost feel her face pucker over the phone, but why is this such a difficult question? “Can you give me the level?” She explained FSH levels can be normal anywhere from 21-251. Okay, fine. I understand if you’re 20 your FSH is going to be much lower, most likely, than when you’re 30. All I want to know is what defines ‘normal’. Does it mean I’m normal for all women that are “fertile”? Am I normal for an anovulatory woman? Does it mean I’m in the normal range for women between 35-40? 35-45? “Older” women? All I wanted to know was where I fit in. I guess I never really get an answer to that question, no matter where I look. Grumble.

Physical symptoms of follicle frenzy isn’t really happening.  I feel kind of ‘pokey’ around my ovaries, on both sides at random times.  I would guess I am producing follicles on both sides (that’s my hope, because it’s a ‘right side’ month and we’re working with just the left tube open).  I’ve sort of stopped trusting my ‘feelings’ about my body since all this – seems like what I want to feel, I’m feeling.  Naturally I want to feel both ovaries stimulated – so I’m not really sure if it’s psychosomatic or if it’s really happening.  I suppose time will tell, once I have the follicle check on Thursday.
